What is life like for many Rwandan women?

Many Rwandan women from ages 25-60 never had the opportunity to attend school. These women found themselves with mouths to feed while trapped in a cycle of poverty—little education, no skills, and complex trauma issues. Women are especially vulnerable to unemployment, and out of desperation, become ensnared by the sex industry. Making a few dollars per client seems better than starving, but the job quickly turns dangerous and life-threatening.

How we want to empower our DuHope women to RISE UP:

Since 2015, DuHope has focused on empowering women through intense group counseling, Bible studies, and vocational training in jewelry production which has also helped to generate income for the ministry of DuHope. As the women express their desire to learn, we have identified specific areas of training opportunities and narrowed our focus to emotional, physical, economic, and spiritual development.

DuHope Artisans have access to support from a Social Welfare team, as well as individual counseling. They participate in courses to learn about trauma, its effects, how to heal the wounds of trauma, and to Rise Up as emotionally healthy parents.

It costs $45 per month for women to receive emotional support through counseling and courses.

PHYSICAL

DuHope Artisans are engaged in health courses with a local nurse and health professional to learn about the spread of disease, how to access safe water, nutrition and healthy eating, and individual health checks. Being in good health enables DuHope Artisans to Rise Up in their families and communities to pass on the knowledge of healthy habits.

It costs $31 per month for DuHope Artisans to gain skills about healthy living.

DuHope Artisans are taught not only to create products that are sold to create their income, they are also taught financial literacy, budgeting skills, entrepreneurship training, and other vocational skills. Our aim is for DuHope Artisans to Rise Up to their own independent employment or business ownership.

It costs $31 a month for DuHope Artisans to learn how to create a sustainable livelihood.

SPIRITUAL

DuHope Artisans have the opportunity to engage in worship and Bible study sessions. We discuss the love of God, that He forgives, and that He sees us all as His precious children. The message of God’s love is woven throughout everything we do – from trainings to Bible studies to the way we serve each other lunch. We aim to see DuHope Artisans Rise Up in their identity in Christ and build their faith.

It costs $45 per month to facilitate the spiritual development of staff and artisans.

Will you partner with us to empower these women to RISE UP?

It is our hope and desire to fully fund all 20 of our DuHope women and we believe ongoing support is crucial for their safety and security as they progress through the program.

The cost to empower a woman to RISE UP is $152 per woman per month, which includes emotional support ($45), physical education ($31), economic training ($31), and spiritual development ($45).

We are seeking partners to commit to empowering a woman to RISE UP with 2 years of monthly giving.
